15 Dec we offer Pre-purchase vehicle inspection reports
Pre-purchase vehicle inspections are not only for before you purchase a secondhand car, but they are also important for an inspection before your new car warranty expires. You receive a report on the condition of the vehicle. A full visual inspection is carried out on the exterior of the vehicle. Items checked are noted on the report and we mark each item on the following:
Immediate: Immediate attention is required
Early – Early attention is required
Observation – Observation only
The car is thoroughly inspected from front to back, top to bottom externally and interior of the vehicle. Our comprehensive inspection also allows extra time for wheels to be removed and special features of European vehicles and SUV’s to be checked. Both inspections include an extensive road test by experienced technicians.
In our pre-purchase vehicle inspections, we then recommend either:
STOP: where we would recommend not proceeding with the purchase. Often the repairs we see in this case would cost more than the vehicle itself or the vehicle structural integrity is questionable.
Caution: the repairs to the vehicle would mean the car would be a reliable vehicle however the costs of the repairs should be considered prior to purchase
Go: Items found in the inspection would be covered by routine service and or replacement and the vehicle will be a reliable vehicle.
When you are an RACV member and have your vehicle inspected it comes with a 30-day mechanical guarantee from RACV. This means that if a mechanical fault is found within 30 days that was not identified on the inspection report, you will receive a reimbursement towards the cost of the repair. There are two types of inspections: Prepurchase and Comprehensive.
Prepurchase Inspections are recommended for a car that is about to come out of the new car warranty.
Comprehensive Inspections are recommended for cars older than 5 years, 4WD’s and European vehicles
